Python 2 5 thanks for the good times

Python 2.5 has a special place in the heart of any Google App Engine developer, as it was the first runtime we launched way back in 2008. Since then, both Python and App Engine have advanced a great deal.


A year ago we announced our support for Python 2.7, which brings syntactic and semantic improvements to the language and includes powerful features like threading and a large selection of third-party libraries.

Not only does Python 2.7 make developers’ lives easier, the runtime is extremely cost-effective. Our customers have taken advantage of features like concurrent requests to reduce their front-end instance costs by more than 70% while handling the same amount of traffic.

Not surprisingly, the Python 2.7 runtime has proven to be extremely popular. Just over a year after launch, more than 78% of active Python applications on App Engine are using the new runtime, and more are being added every minute.

As both Python and App Engine evolve, we must occasionally make hard choices about which legacy runtimes we should continue to support. Today we are announcing the deprecation of the Python 2.5 runtime. The deprecation period will follow the guidelines set in our terms of service.

What does this mean?

• We will continue to run Python 2.5 applications throughout the deprecation period. For most customers, upgrading to Python 2.7 is trivial as most elements of Python 2.5 are forwards-compatible with Python 2.7. We’ve prepared a handy migration guide that covers the steps to migrate in detail.


• If your application is still using the already deprecated Master/Slave Datastore, then you should first plan the migration to our more reliable High Replication Datastore, as the Master/Slave Datastore is not accessible from Python 2.7.


• Future versions of the App Engine Python Development SDK will display warnings to developers deploying updates to a deprecated runtime.


• Starting from January 2014, we will no longer allow new applications to be created using the Python 2.5 runtime.

We encourage all developers using Python 2.5 to consider migrating as soon as possible. We’re confident that the vast majority of our customers will find the upgrade straightforward and the benefits substantial.

5 more tips for using Google Buzz on your phone

Last week we shared some tips for getting the most out of Google Buzz for mobile. Were back with more ways to help you become a power buzz poster and find the most interesting buzz while youre on the go. Try these 5 tips for the Google Buzz for mobile web app (buzz.google.com) on your iPhone or Android 2.0+ device.

1. Post buzz with your voice.
You can post your public buzz simply by speaking it. From the Google Mobile App for iPhone or Quick Search Box on Android, select the voice search icon, say "post buzz" followed by the text youd like to post, and watch your words appear. Before your post is sent, youll be able to edit it or change its tagged location.

2. Filter the Nearby tab for a specific place.
From the Nearby tab, you can easily filter buzz by a specific place, such as a sushi restaurant youre about to walk by, to only see posts from that place. Open the menu showing nearby places, for example "Tartine Bakery and 20+ other locations nearby," and then select a specific place from the list. Now, youll see all the public buzz anyones ever posted from that place or you can quickly create a post that is tagged with the place. To go back, just open the same menu and select your current location shown with the blue dot. Youll once again see all the recently posted buzz around your location.

3. Search!
As youd expect from any Google product, Google Buzz for mobile has a powerful search feature that lets you search all public buzz for topics that interest you. Open the menu or just select the magnifying glass icon to see the search bar. You can also search specifically for nearby posts by checking the "Search nearby" box before submitting your search (its already checked if youre in the Nearby tab). Now you can find out what people around you are saying about the closest pizza spot or a traffic jam.

4. Post from your city-level location.
Tagging a post with your location is easy and adds context to your buzz posts. Sometimes, your post isnt about a specific place or youd rather not share your exact location. You can easily show your city-level location, so your post has a general city location tagged and will be browsable in the Nearby view and Maps Buzz layer. When posting, just select the ">" in the location box, scroll down, and select the city-level location option.

5. Refresh your location.
On the other hand, sometimes you really want your location to be exact. When you visit the Nearby tab or want to tag your post with a location, Google Buzz will try to get your location using your phones GPS. If youre not happy with the location accuracy, youre moving, or youre just stepping outside to get a GPS signal, hit the refresh icon to tell the Google Buzz web app to get your location again. Samsung Galaxy Grand Cheap 5 inches tablet with Jelly Bean

With the Samsung Galaxy Grand, a new 5-inch smartphone with a 1.2 GHz dual core chip and Android Jelly Bean was announced. The Grand Galaxy will be cheaper than the Galaxy Note.

A few weeks ago I reported that a cheaper version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will bring to market. Much we did not know then, just only that the new smartphone will appear cheaper than the touch and with a slightly stripped-down specifications, not due to lack of stylus under the note branding. Now we know more about the Samsung Galaxy Grand, it will mean Smartlet. In a blog Samsung has just announced the 5-inch smartphone.

Compared with the score 2 or the Galaxy S3, the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy Grand is relatively weak. Thus, only a 1.2 GHz dual core processor is installed, but there are still 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal memory. The latter can be expanded via a microSD card slot with 64GB. On the back there is a camera with 8 megapixels and the Frontcam has a resolution of 2 megapixels.

With the 5.0 inch screen is not as supposed to Super AMOLED display, but a simple WVGA TFT LCD panel. This solves so only with 800 × 480 pixels, which is especially at a size of 5 inches already quite low.

On Samsung Galaxy Grand will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Although Samsung did not reveal any awards, but at the hardware we already see that the Galaxy Grand should be pretty cheap. When the 5-inch Smartlet is in stores, also not known.

By the way: The Samsung Galaxy Grand will appear in two versions. So there is a dual SIM model (GT19082) and a normal with only one SIM card (GT-19080)
